The AKV-521 allows its user to have the option to install 415 or 341-mm barrels chambered in 5.45x39, 7.62x39, and .223 Rem.
The rifle is split in two major parts:
- The U-shaped upper combines the barrel, gas action, locking assembly, bolt rails, and a 1913-MIL-STD rail for telescopic sights;
- The trigger housing combines the trigger guard, mag well, buttstock, and pistol grip.
