The project CCa5712LS Sergey Prikhodko (shipyard number 01201) crabber boat, launched on October 27 at Nobel Brothers Shipyard, has entered the stage of cladding and room equipping.


	Cabins and working premises will be furnished and equipped as part of the planned works. This stage is expected to be finished by May 2023. The Sergey Prikhodko will leave for mooring and at-sea trials after being outfitted with navigational and other equipment.


	The vessel is being built as part of the Quotas Under the Keel federal investment program by order of Akva-Invest, a subsidiary of the TIGR Pacific Investment Group. It is designed for operation in unrestricted navigation areas. The crabber boat is equipped to haul up to 120 tons of live crab over long distances from fisheries to ports of reception. Damen Engineering developed the project.

Candidates for scholarships for the development of contemporary weapons and military equipment were recommended by the expert council established by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, made up of representatives of the Ministry of Defense, Federal Space Agency, ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation, federal executive bodies, and leading industrial enterprises. 14 Kalashnikov Concern employees were among them. A decree by the Russian Federation's President approved the final list of scholarship recipients.


	The 7.62x54mm Chukavin sniper rifle, the KUB complex and its export version KUB-E, as well as projects to refine the designs of Kalashnikov AK-12 rifles and PPK-20 submachine guns, were among the highlighted projects.


	"Employees from most every department in the company participate in the complex and protracted process of creating any weapon or military equipment model," noted Kalashnikov Concern JSC President Alan Lushnikov. "Designers, process engineers, and experts from our Construction and Design Center, the automation and development division, the special equipment division, and the toolmaking division are among those recognized by the President of the Russian Federation."


	Scholarships for employees of the defense industry were established in 2013 and are awarded based on performance under a corresponding decree by the Russian President. More than one grant may be given to the same person, but no more than once every three years.

The contract for the delivery of a batch of SR2M submachine guns to Russian law enforcement agencies' special units has been completed by the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (a Kalashnikov Concern subsidiary).


	In 2004, the FSB adopted the 9mm SR2M submachine gun, developed at the TsNIITochMash in the early 2000s. Later, other security agencies followed suit. It can be used to engage personnel targets, including those wearing Class 2 PPE, as well as unarmored vehicles (cars, trucks, etc.), at distances up to 200 meters.


	20 and 30-round magazines are available, and the submachine gun weighs 1.7 kg with a 20-round magazine. It has a buttstock that can fold over the dust cover, allowing for accurate shooting in both positions. Shooting effectiveness is increased by using a red-dot sight created specifically for this submachine gun. With the buttstock folded, the gun is only 36.7 cm long, making it suitable for concealed carry.


	TsNIITochMash has developed the SR2M submachine gun and is its sole manufacturer.

On December 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted a meeting in Tula with the leaders of the defense-industrial complex. Concern Kalashnikov JSC President Alan Lushnikov attended.


	Speaking at the meeting, Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that the 2023 state defense order's requirements for the production and supply of weapons and special military equipment would be met in full. The President stated that the main responsibility of the defense industry companies is to deliver the necessary volume of weapons, ammunition, and equipment to the Russian Armed Forces withing the required terms. The President also emphasized the significance of enhancing the capabilities of the Russian military's weapons and gear in light of the knowledge gained through combat.


	Commenting on the outcomes of the meeting, Alan Lushnikov said, "Our unconditional priority is the fulfilment of the state defense order in full and on time. Every effort will be made to ensure that the Armed Forces receive our products in a timely manner. These include small arms, high-precision munitions, and UAVs. Special attention must be paid to the manufacture of combat gear. We must focus even more effort in this area. Both the need for personal protection and the standards for its efficiency have increased. Each soldier must be provided with reliable protection and modern, high-performance weapons. The servicemen who take part in the special military operation frequently provide us with feedback. The President has given us this exact task to complete. We continuously introduce changes to our products based on feedback we receive from the military on their use in combat. For instance, the AK-12 manufactured today differs significantly from the model first adopted by the Army in 2018. The feedback is also carefully considered for our new products, the Chukavin sniper rifle (SVCh) and the Kalashnikov submachine gun (PPK-20), which are already being supplied to the special military operation zone. The same is true of UAVs, both those that are currently in use and those that are yet in the early stages of development."

Sergei Shoygu, the Russian defense minister, visited the Kalashnikov Concern on a working trip. He examined the manufacture of serial military products in accordance with the state defense order.


	 The most recent automatic and sniper rifle designs, as well as Kalashnikov's high-precision munitions and anti-aircraft guided missiles, were displayed to the defense minister.

	 The Minister was briefed by Vladimir Lepin, General Director of Kalashnikov Concern JSC, on the fulfilment of the 2022 state defense order for small arms and high-precision munitions.


	 The Minister noted that the state defense order to be fulfilled by the Concern will be substantially increased in the upcoming year. Vladimir Lepin assured the Minister that all tasks would be completed in full.

The hunting carbine Saiga-PPK (Izh-223) is intended for the domestic market. Its differences from its predecessor, the Saiga-9, include a handguard with an integrated front sight, an updated grip, a new buttstock, and an ambidextrous fire selector switch. Furthermore, the diopter sight has been enhanced. The barrel has M16x1 threading, and the receiver cover features a Picatinny rail.


	The PPK-K (Izh-223 v.01) is a sporting (shortened) variant of the Saiga-PPK.


	The TR9S (Izh-2102) is a smoothbore hunting gun chambered in 345TK, with a 367-mm barrel.


	The TG2S (Izh-224) is a smoothbore hunting gun chambered in 366TKM.


	Compared to Izh-2102, its barrel has been shortened to 341 mm.&nbsp;The new products' smooth barrel is the primary distinction between them and the standard TR9 (Izh-9x19 Sb-52) and TG2 (Izh-1611).&nbsp;


	The Kalashnikov Concern is currently putting all four products into mass production. May 2023 is the anticipated release date for these models to retail.

Combat veteran, reserve Guards lieutenant colonel Sergey Sharapov stars in the next story under the AK: Nonfiction Stories special project. According to him, the Kalashnikov rifle twice saved his life by serving as a dependable support. The first time happened in the Far East during training when the officer fell through a hole in the ice and was dragged under by the mountain river's current. Using his AK to clinge to the hole's edge, he was able to hang on until help arrived. The second incident occurred in the North Caucasus mountains, where the reconnaissance trooper found himself sliding down a precipitous mountainside covered in gravel. Only the rifle buttstock, which he used as a support, allowed him to slow down his fall and avoid dropping down the chasm.


	 In some instances, an AK has taken the possibly fatal blow intended for a man. According to Sergey Sharapov, such an incident happened during the first Chechen campaign: as Russian soldiers stormed a building, a shot rang out from the shadows of the stairwell. One of them was holding his AK at chest level when an enemy bullet struck the weapon's receiver, bounced off, and flew high. Should it follow its initial trajectory, it would land in his chest, near the heart. The serviceman now remembers both his fallen friends and the Kalashnikov rifle that saved his life every time he raises his third toast at a gathering.


	 The reserve Guards lieutenant colonel also mentioned a good tradition of issuing young soldiers their first combat weapon. If the man who served with this weapon before had performed any feat or otherwise distinguished himself in service, the story of it is told that the young soldier should cherish and strive to add to.

New airtight, fire-resistant fiberglass packages have been created by the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (Concern Kalashnikov) for the storage and transportation of high-precision and guided artillery shells.


	"TsNIITochMash JSC is currently completing tests of the packaging and planning a full production cycle using the new technology which should significantly ramp up its annual output," stated Vadim Malinnikov, the project's leading designer.


	Numerous fiberglass boxes and packages for ammunition, weapons, and military gear are already mass-produced by TsNIITochMash. The enterprise has a capacity to produce 200 types of fiberglass boxes and packaging for military supplies, ammunition, and weapons.


	Optoelectronic units and assemblies, as well as other products with highly complex configurations and little support surface area, can be placed, operated, transported, and stored using fiberglass packaging. Systems that use such packages and boxes are used by armed forces of more than 20 countries, including those with tropical climates. The Institute's products are used in Kornet-E, Metis, Igla-S, Iskander-E, Topol, MKAU-A, Malakhit and many other systems.


	TsNIITochMash established a production facility using exclusively Russian-made materials for the manufacture of boxes and packages. These packages and boxes are used to build containers for transportation and operation of equipment, as well as field workstations.


	Utilizing the technological advancements developed at TsNIITochMash gives the packaging high operational properties, improves product safety, requires less labor, and makes mothballing quicker.

Kalashnikov Concern JSC has started full-scale mass production of the AK-15 and AK-19 rifles chambered in 7.62x39 and 5.56x45, respectively, based on the 5.45-mm AK-12 model. The works have been carried out in the interests of a number of customers.


	The 7.62 mm AK-15 is a personal firearm used by the special operations units of the Russian military and other federal executive bodies. The AK-15 is part of the Ratnik equipment kit.


	The 5.56 mm AK-19 is a new personal firearm for the export market using NATO standard 5.56x45 mm cartridges, popular around the globe.


	Both models are the pinnacle of AK pattern development, differing from the previous generations by their elaborate ergonomics, all-day usability and increased accuracy and precision.
