Following the results of sea trials last year, the Abalon seismoacoustic bottom complex developed by Kalashnikov Concern JSC will undergo final retrofitting and will be ready for launching into serial production by the end of 2023. Igor Khodakovsky, Head of Experimental Electronics Production at Kalashnikov Concern, talked about this at the meeting of the Open Research and Technical Council on Import Substitution in Exploration held at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.


	According to him, the Abalon station is a unique domestic product made entirely of Russian components. "The station was developed from scratch using the Concern's own component base. It provides a much more accurate geological view and, accordingly, more precise determination of hydrocarbon deposit borders and works at depths of up to two kilometers," says Mr Khodakovsky.


	Mr Khodakovsky explained that the vast majority of Russian seismic survey companies work only with cable equipment, while the share of cableless systems owned by domestic companies is small. Some companies employ rented nodal equipment for certain projects (which–due to natural constraints–are difficult to implement by cable), but this possibility is also becoming increasingly less available due to sanctions. Under current sanctions, Magseis Fairfield, INOVA, InApril and other equipment is completely unavailable in Russia, even for rent.


	Abalon is characterized by its own full-cycle production, integrated circuits and discrete semiconductors of the company's own design, precision isotope frequency references as the basis for onboard time scale drivers, the use of multicrystal micro-modules of the latest generation of the company's own design and production.


	The following works will be carried out within the final pre-production phase:



<ul>
	<li>modernization of the bottom station hydrophones;</li>
	<li>development of the launch-and-recovery system design;</li>
	<li>finalization of the software user's graphical interface.</li>
</ul>



	"These works will result in the convenience of operation in the field, which minimizes vessel days for offshore prospecting surveys, the capability for fine-tuning to a given depth and, ultimately, the convenience when operating the complex software package which consists in using familiar forms and interface logic," emphasizes Mr Khodakovsky.

Nobel Brothers Shipyard LLC plans to promote its products, a line of civilian ships that the shipyard can build for export, in friendly countries. These include trawlers, crab boats, dry cargo vessels, tugs, and other technical fleet vessels. Dmitry Kolobkov, Deputy General Director of the shipyard, talked about the company's export plans at a meeting with the management of the Kalashnikov Rybinsk River Transport School.


	As an option for its foreign customers, the company and the school are willing to arrange for training for the crews of vessels planned to be built for exports. The advanced training program with the issuance of a state-backed document will be developed for a specific vessel design and take account of the specifics of the equipment on it.


	Nobel Brothers Shipyard is already having some preliminary negotiations with a number of domestic companies specializing in exports.

Development of new projects in the field of defense and security of Russia and Belarus and the implementation of the existing programs became the main topics of the two-day meeting of the Security and Defense Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State in Izhevsk.


	For their first visit to the capital of Udmurtia, the Parliamentary Assembly members visited the manufacturing site of Kalashnikov Concern, the largest Russian maker of small arms in Russia. Oleg Belokonev, Chairman of the Security and Defense Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly, Andrey Krasov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, and other representatives of the Commission held their first-ever field meeting in this region and learned about the modern combat weapon models and the automatic rifle and sniper rifle assembly technology at Kalashnikov site first thing.


	"Under the conditions of continuous escalation of tension on the borders of the allied states, the issues of rear and border security and stronger interaction between our two countries become ever so important. In this regard, the interest in Kalashnikov products is quite understandable: the Concern offers the widest range of weapons – from small arms to unmanned aerial vehicle systems. We have been cooperating with the Concern for a long time in supplying products to the internal troops and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, and I am glad that I have had a chance able to visit the Kalashnikov factory," says Mr Belokonev.

Twenty pistols manufactured by the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant are on display at the Pistoletnaya Istoriya exhibition which opened in the Kalashnikov Small Arms Museum and Exhibition Complex in Izhevsk. Izhevsk Mechanical Plant designers Vladimir Yarygin and Dmitry Lebedev spoke with the visitors at the first tour about the weapons and the history of their development.


	Vladimir Yarygin, Izhevsk Mechanical Plant long-service employee and honorary gunsmith of Russia, shared his recollections about the history of his 6P35 and its development in civilian models and gave his personal tour of several stands with sports and combat weapons developed at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant.


	Dmitry Lebedev, Lead Design Engineer at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, told the guests about the development of the Lebedev pistols (PL) line, which has been underway since 2014. There are already five modifications in the PL range: three models of combat pistols –&nbsp;compact PLK, modular MPL and MPL-1, sporting IZh-182 and less-lethal PLK-T, which are being set up for their mass production at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant.


	"I would like to thank the hosts for the Pistoletnaya Istoriya exhibit. In many respects, it is about the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant weapons: during all 80 years of its operation, it has specialized in serial production of pistols, and it is the largest Russian manufacturer of small arms for infighting today. It is important that Izhevsk residents know about it and are no less proud than of Kalashnikov assault rifle. This exhibition is not only about the past, it looks into the future: it shows modern Lebedev pistols, which are being set up for production, and I am sure our designers will not stop at this," says Oleg Sapozhnikov, Commercial Director of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, at the exhibition opening.


	Among 60 pistols at the Pistoletnaya Istoriya exhibition, Izhevsk Mechanical Plant presented PLK, MPL, Yarygin pistol, sporting IZh-1, MTs-3 Rekord, IZh-23, IZh-KhR-30, IZh-KhR-31, IZh-50 models, signaling and starting pistols manufactured in different periods of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant development.


	In addition to the plant products, the exhibition also offers foreign models of handguns, including Smith &amp; Wesson revolvers, Mauser and Browning pistols, and others. The exhibition is open until mid-May 2023 at 19 Borodina St. in Izhevsk.

Kalashnikov Concern took part in IDEX-2023, international exhibition of arms, security technologies and protective equipment held from February 20 to 24 in the UAE. The Concern presented a wide range of products of its enterprises: modern models of military and civilian small arms, advanced solutions in the field of dynamic protection and equipment for special units, unmanned aerial, missile and naval equipment –&nbsp;about 50 items in total.


	During the exhibition, the Kalashnikov booth was visited by dozens of delegations from around the world and thousands of visitors.


	"The main conclusion we have made at this exhibition is that the interest in our products is determined not by the size of the stand or its location at the exhibition, but by the experience of the combat use of our weapons. And I mean the use is not in blitz operations, but in large-scale combined-arms operations. From this point of view, the Concern's products, just like all Russian weapons, currently have an obvious competitive advantage," says Alan Lushnikov, President of Kalashnikov Concern JSC.


	As for combat small arms, the participants and guests of the forum saw the entire line of Kalashnikov assault rifles. The 5.45-mm AK-12, 7.62-mm AK-15 and 5.56-mm AK-19, the most up-to-date models, were presented in their current design, taking into account the experience of their combat use.


	The visitors were most interested in the 9-mm Kalashnikov PPK-20 submachine gun and the 7.62-mm SVCH Chukavin sniper rifle which has successfully passed state-supervised tests and is supplied to its customers under the state defense procurement program. It has been presented at a foreign exhibition for the first time.


	IDEX-2023 participants and guests appreciated the new dynamic protection system for lightly-armored vehicles manufactured by Research Institute of Steel JSC (Kalashnikov Concern member). It is designed on the basis of a new element of reactive armor (EDZ) 4C24.


	The visitors paid special attention to the special outfit for assault and arctic units and modular tactical systems.


	As for civilian small arms, Kalashnikov presented, in particular, its models of the PKK-K EXR-M sporting semi-automatic carbine and the MR1-M semi-automatic hunting carbine.


	Unmanned aerial, rocket and naval equipment range from the company presented at the forum includes KUB-E, Granat-1, Granat-4 and Tachyon UAVs from the Izhevsk Unmanned Systems NPO, Vikhr-1 guided missile, Kitolov-2M guided projectile, BK-10 landing and attack speedboat, and BK-16 high-speed landing boat.

Kalashnikov Concern organized professional service of the rifles it manufactures at the Izhevskaya Vintovka Russian Biathlon Championship. It included competitions in the following disciplines: individual race, super pursuit, and mass start.


	The fifty-third traditional Izhevskaya Vintovka competition, a symbolic sporting event for Russian biathlon and Kalashnikov Concern, was held on February 23–26 at the Demidov Biathlon Complex. More than 120 athletes from 21 regions of Russia and Belarus took part in the championship. Most of the athletes came to the race with their Izhevsk BI-7-4 rifle.


	The Concern's professional service team worked for four days at the competition: they were servicing the rifles, which had a positive response from the participants. Team representatives received full technical and informational support directly from the manufacturer.


	Aleksandr Povarnitsyn, the winner of the Russian Championship super pursuit, Udmurt biathlon school graduate, Ilnaz Mukhamedzyanov, the leader of the mass start in for 15 km and the silver medalist in the individual race for 20 km, and many other winners own the Izhevsk rifles. "Our rifles are not inferior to the German Anschutz in terms of their accuracy and reliability," Mr Mukhamedzyanov says.


	"The competition emphasized the importance of holding such high-level competitions in our region. We need to develop our relations with biathlon schools in Russia and promote Izhevsk-made products. This is considering the fact that there has been and is only one manufacturer of biathlon rifles in Russia – Kalashnikov Concern," Ivan Cherezov, Olympic medalist, deputy of the State Council of the Udmurt Republic, says.


	Alan Lushnikov, President of Kalashnikov Concern JSC, also supports the need to develop biathlon: "Biathlon is an attractive sport for novice athletes, and we must support the desire of young skiers to train in their home region and shoot with Russian rifles. Kalashnikov Concern announced that it plans to manufacture three new models of civilian small arms for hunting and shooting as sports at the 1st International Exhibition «Hunting and Fishing WORLD».


	Kalashnikov exhibited the line of civilian small arms at the stand of OkhotAktiv chain store, its retail partner, at this professional forum in Moscow. Visitors saw traditional Baikal hunting rifles and carbines (manufactured by Izhevsk Mechanical Plant), as well as civilian Kalashnikov weapons designed on the basis of military weapons.


	First of all, this range includes the Tiger carbine – a civilian equivalent of the Dragunov sniper rifle in two designs: for 308 Win and 7.62x54 ammunition with a folding buttstock (02 design is SVDS based). The latter is one of the most popular models.


	The AK platform was represented by the 7.63x39 caliber TR3 semi-automatic hunting carbine based on the AK-12 Kalashnikov assault rifle, as well as the Saiga range of civilian weapons: Saiga-9 sports carbine in 02 design (civilian version of the Vityaz submachine gun) and Saiga-12 shotguns in 030 and 340 designs (for practice shooting).


	Baikal line of classical hunting weapons now has the 141 Sobol caliber .22LR hunting rifle, and the top-of-the-range product is the 145 Los caliber .223 Rem Sobol and MP-121-05 Lis caliber .308 Win single shot carbine.


	Evgeny Spiridonov, Concern's official representative, hosted a seminar on the civilian small arms at the OkhotAktiv booth: he spoke about the technical characteristics and features of the Kalashnikov and Baikal civilian small arms. At the end of the event, he announced some upcoming products from Kalashnikov Concern. He noted that consumers can expect at least three items in the near future: one will be a hunting weapon, and other two will be sports weapons.


	There was also a drawing for the guests of the exhibition at OkhotAktiv booth, also with MR-512S-R air rifle as a reward provided by Kalashnikov. More than 300 people took part in the drawing.


	Joint participation with retail partners in exhibitions aimed at end consumers of hunting and sport products is a well-established option for Kalashnikov Concern which does not sell its weapons in retail. This format–combined with promotional events held at the booth–allows the store to enjoy direct interaction with its customers, while Kalashnikov, their manufacturer, is able to effectively communicate current news and benefits of its products to the customers.

Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation, visited the Kalashnikov Concern's stand within the framework of the IDEX 2023 International Exhibition of Arms, Security and Defense Technologies, which opened in the UAE.


	Together with Alan Lushnikov, President of Kalashnikov Concern JSC, the head of Rostec had a look at the new products of the holding. Sergey Chemezov paid a lot of attention to the exposition of military small arms, especially the 7.62&nbsp;mm Chukavin precision rifle and the 9&nbsp;mm Kalashnikov PPK-20 submachine gun. The latter products were of great interest among IDEX specialists and guests. He also examined the drones designed by Izhevsk Drone Systems and presented at the stand, elements of reactive armor from Research Institute of Steel JSC, modular webgear, gear for special forces, high-precision weapons, and other products of Kalashnikov's enterprises.

The Kalashnikov Concern presented a new outboard reactive armor complex for light armored vehicles produced by Research Institute of Steel JSC (a business unit of the Kalashnikov Concern) to participants and guests of the IDEX&nbsp;2023 International Exhibition of Arms, Safety and Defense Technologies. It is designed on the basis of a new element of reactive armor (EDZ) 4C24.


	It is fundamentally different from the previously marketed 4C20 element. Due to its properties, adjacent elements do not detonate if a grenade or an ATGM hits it. Previously, the failure of one ERA unit led to the failure of several adjacent ones, which increased the area of the unprotected armor area. The new element significantly increases the working life of armored vehicles on the battlefield.


	The complex still provides protection against one-piece grenades and ATGMs fired from any direction and penetrating up to 500&nbsp;mm of steel armor. Besides, in the company they managed to increase the guaranteed shelf life of the ERA by one and a half times. 4C20 elements had to be replaced each 10&nbsp;years, and 4C24 elements, each 15&nbsp;years.


	4C20 and 4C24 elements are interchangeable. Their dimensions and weight are the same, and it is possible to enhance characteristics of current EDZ 4C20 complexes by simple replacing of elements.


	The Research Institute of Steel also exhibited its well-established technical solutions of outboard protection of BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles and other lightly armored vehicles.
